Four major religions are practiced in Asia Pacific

Buddhism

Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama about the nature of life and how to navigate it. It views life as suffering and espouses a path of escape from suffering based entirely on personal effort. It is the world's fourth-largest religion with roughly one billion adherents.

Hinduism

Hinduism is a religion that encompasses the belief in many gods, and that each different god meets a different need; much like how some people pray to different saints depending on their need. Another Hindu belief is that the soul, instead of going to heaven or hell, goes through cycles of reincarnation; passing from one body to the next upon death with the hope that it will eventually become enlightened enough to join God.

ANIMISM

Animism as a religion seeks to manipulate or appease the spirits and spiritual power that permeates the universe. Animism as a philosophy is the belief that all things are spiritual in essence – not that inanimate objects are inhabited by spirits but that there are no inanimate objects.

ISLAM

Islam, with 1.9 billion adherents, primarily bases its beliefs and practices on the Quran, the holy book of Islam, which is comprised of 114 revelations received in the 7th century by the Arabian prophet Muhammad. Muslims, followers of Islam, believe that they will gain paradise by confessing that there is no god except Allah, recognizing Muhammad as the prophet of Allah, and submitting to the six core beliefs and five practices of the religion.
